Overview

The Australian Government is inviting the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services (NATSILS) to apply for funding under the Justice Policy Partnership (JPP) program. The Australian Government has announced a total of up to $2.434 million (GST exclusive) over 3 years from 2021–22 to 2023–24 for the JPP: $800,000 (GST exclusive) was already provided in 2021–22 under the Community Legal Services Program. A total of $1.634 million (GST exclusive) is now available over 2 years from 2022–23 to 2023–24 under this grant opportunity. The purpose of the JPP is to develop a joined-up approach to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander justice policy, with a focus on reducing adult and youth incarceration. The primary function of the JPP is to make recommendations to reduce over-incarceration. The JPP is consistent with the commitment to formal partnerships and shared decision-making under Priority Reform One of the National Agreement. The intended outcomes of the activity are NATSILS: performing a leadership role in the JPP supporting the participation of other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives on the JPP, and participating as a member of the JPP to identify work needed to achieve real outcomes to progress the justice targets under the National Agreement and set measures, actions, and areas of accountability
