Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Professional Organisations (ATSIHPOs)

Overview

The purpose of the grant opportunity is to build the capacity of the ATSIHPOs as strong independent organisations that can provide leadership and expertise in the provision of quality, accessible, effective, responsive and culturally appropriate health care to First Nations people. ATSIHPOs will be supported to undertake activities within their areas of expertise that increase the number of First Nations people within the health workforce and develop the cultural capability of the broader health workforce.  ATSIHPOs will also be supported to assist Government to deliver on its commitments to the National Agreement on Closing the Gap in health outcomes between First Nations and other Australians, including the priorities listed in the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Strategic Framework and Implementation Plan 2021–2031. The objectives of the grant opportunity are to: support work to increase recruitment and improve retention of First Nations health professionals in clinical and non-clinical roles across all health disciplines; improve skills and capacity of the First Nations health workforce in clinical and non-clinical roles across all health disciplines; promote culturally safe and responsive workplace environments for First Nations health consumers and health professionals; increase the number of First Nations students studying for qualifications in health; improve completion/graduation and support higher employment rates for First Nations health students; improve the quality of health workforce planning and policies; deliver mentoring and support to First Nations health students and health professionals; and deliver professional networking and development opportunities for health students and health professionals.
