Administration and Delivery of the Insulin Pump Program
Department of Health and Aged Care
Overview
The Administration and Delivery of the Insulin Pump Program Grant Opportunity, which encompasses the 2018-19 Budget measure: Infant Health - Expansion of the Insulin Pump Program, is intended to supply fully subsidised insulin pumps to children with type 1 diabetes from financially disadvantaged families, who do not have access to alternative means of reimbursement, such as private health insurance. The intended outcome of the grant opportunity is to ensure the maximum number of fully subsidised insulin pumps are made available to eligible children, under the age of 18 years, with type 1 diabetes from financially disadvantaged families within the available funding envelope each financial year over the term of the grant. At present, approximately 66 fully subsidised insulin pumps are distributed per year, with an increase of funding, it is anticipated that up to 280 pumps can be made available per year. It is expected that this number of insulin pumps will allow the program to satisfy currently unmet demand.
