Overview

The grant will provide funding for Research and Evaluation to achieve the following national goal: “Improve oral health status by reducing the incidence, prevalence and effects of oral disease. Reduce the inequalities in oral health status across the Australian population.” (National Oral Health Plan 2015-2024, pg 16) The routine collection, reporting, and sharing of population oral health data, including on priority populations, will provide a coordinated and consistent approach to research and will serve as the basis for the improvement of oral health services and systems. The University of Adelaide’s Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health (ARCPOH) Research Grant Program is an Australian Government initiative administered by the Department of Health and Aged Care (the Department) and contributes to Outcome 2.5 – Dental Services by generating data about dental service use and accessibility by the Australian population. The program grant opportunity combines two activities: Activity 1: National Child Oral Health Study (NCOHS) and  Activity 2: National Dental Care Survey (NDCS). These grant projects will provide valuable information about the oral health status of the Australian population by gathering information on oral health behaviours, access to services, barriers to access, and follow-on effects, such as productivity loss. Information will include analysis on variations in oral health and service accessibility across different population cohorts. We administer the program according to the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines (CGRGs). The studies must be delivered in accordance with research ethics standards, and in a manner consistent with Government expectations around privacy, protection of personal information, ethics, and conducted in a respectful and ethical manner.
