Overview

In 2018, the Department of Health established an Enhanced Syphilis Response to address the outbreak of infectious syphilis in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations in northern and central Australia. The Enhanced Syphilis Response is being delivered in consultation with the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (NACCHO), Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS), state and territory governments and other relevant stakeholders.  The Enhanced Syphilis Response is being implemented in a phased approach to address the infectious syphilis outbreak in affected regions. The first phase (phase one) of the Enhanced Syphilis Response commenced from June 2018 over 12 months in Darwin (Northern Territory), Townsville and Cairns (Queensland). The second phase (phase two) commenced from October 2018 over 12 months in the Katherine Region, Nhulunbuy (Northern Territory) and the Kimberley (Western Australia).  This Grant Opportunity is to provide additional funding support to the ACCHS currently funded under the first two phases of the Enhanced Syphilis Response.
