Overview

In 2018, the Department of Health established an Enhanced Syphilis Response to address the outbreak of infectious syphilis in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations in northern and central Australia. The Enhanced Syphilis Response is being implemented in a phased approach. For this Grant Opportunity, funding is available to implement the third phase (phase three) of the Enhanced Syphilis Response to address the outbreak of infectious syphilis in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations across South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia.  Phase three will build on the progress of the first two phases to support additional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) in outbreak regions. The intended outcomes of this grant opportunity will be to: Increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people tested for syphilis, including frequency of testing, to control the infectious syphilis cases across the relevant service region/s Build workforce capacity in the relevant service region/s to increase testing, treatment and health promotion of syphilis Develop processes to ensure syphilis testing data is collected to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of increased testing and treatment in the relevant service region/s
