Health Workforce - Primary Care Workforce Support Program (PCWSP)

Overview

The Primary Care Workforce Support Program (PCWSP) (this grant opportunity) is a component of the Health Workforce Program which contributes to the department’s Portfolio Budget Statement Outcomes 1: Health Policy, Access, and Support, Program 1.4 Health Workforce. This grant opportunity was announced as part of the 2024-25Budget Measure ‘Boosting Supply for Healthcare in areas of Shortage’. The Australian Government announced this grant opportunity under the newly named and expanded Primary Care Workforce Support Program (PCWSP). Previously known as the Rural Health Workforce Support Activity (RHWSA) program, the program has been redefined to provide broader national support for healthcare workforce needs. While the RHWSA primarily supported Rural Workforce Agencies (RWAs) in recruiting General Practitioners and health professionals to rural and remote areas of Australia, the PCWSP will expand this focus. Through close collaboration with Primary Health Networks (PHNs), the program will address health workforce areas of need across Australia, ensuring equitable distribution and support of healthcare professionals. The purpose of this grant opportunity is to improve the capacity, quality, distribution and mix of the health workforce to better meet the current and future community health workforce needs of Australian communities, creating a sustainable and well-distributed healthcare workforce nationwide.
