Overview

The National Health Call Centre Network (the Network) forms part of the Primary Health Care Development Program. The Network was established by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG)in 2006 to address the ‘Better Health for All Australians’ initiative. The Network aims to improve access to health services and accurate, trusted health information for Australian communities, particularly marginalised and special needs groups including those in rural and remote locations. The Network is also designed to use innovative technology solutions to increase access to health practitioners and manage the pressure on the health care system. Intended outcomes of this grant opportunity include the delivery of a national health advice and information service that supports Australians through digital communication channels and online interactive communication technologies, allowing individuals and carers to better care for themselves and their families and make informed decisions about their health. This will be achieved through a number of telephonic and digital services, including a Nurse Triage Helpline, an After Hours GP Helpline, the Pregnancy, Birth and Baby Helpline, the National Health Services Directory and associated websites and digital projects.
