Department of Health and Aged Care

Overview

The purpose of this grant opportunity is to support efforts to reduce the rates of preventable mortality and morbidity by providing access to high quality national health data to improve and/or better target population health policies and programs. The grant activity also supports monitoring of the impact of social determinants of health through the manipulation and comparison of demographic data against health outcomes. The data will be able to be interrogated at various geographical levels including Primary Health Networks, Local Government Areas, jurisdictions and Population Health Areas (can be used to map health trends in remote Indigenous populations). The data will also be able to be interrogated by socio-demographic measures and for population groups (including breakdowns by gender, age and for Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander peoples).  This grant activity aligns with Program 2.4 by managing and promoting the collection, dissemination and utilisation of public health data, particularly through the use of small area statistics, to inform evidence based health policy and programs. Small area statistics provide population data at a granular level and enable monitoring of public health at a local level. They also facilitate the targeting of programs and policy towards discrete communities/geographic areas. This data can be used to visually present and compare health data and trends nationally, locally and for population groups through graphs, charts and time series atlases.   To view the grant opportunity document select the "GO Documents" button on the left hand side.
