Overview

The RVTS Extended Targeted Recruitment Pilot grant opportunity is for the administration of salary support funding to ten RVTS targeted-recruitment training posts. The objectives of the grant opportunity are to: *support ten small rural and remote communities to attract and retain doctors training toward vocational general practice recognition; and *compile information to test a salaried model as a mechanism for attracting doctors to hard to fill locations. RVTS is a three or four year program that aims to support practitioners to gain Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and/or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). This is achieved by funding two streams of doctors: * Stream A – doctors working in rural and remote Australia in Modified Monash Model (MMM) 4-7 locations; and * Stream B - doctors working in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) in MMM 2-7 locations. RVTS provides an alternative route to vocational recognition for doctors in ACCHS, or a single doctor town, or a town where the medical services would be substantially compromised by the departure of that doctor to undertake training. RVTS enables doctors to train and build cultural competency while providing services in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The intended outcomes of the RVTS Extended Targeted Recruitment Pilot grant opportunity are to: * contribute to an increased, well-distributed General Practitioner workforce ensuring distribution of registrars across remote areas of Australia; and * support rural and remote communities to attract and retain doctors.
