Overview

The Youth Mental Health: headspace National program aims to improve mental health outcomes for young people aged 12 to 25 years and their families, by providing national evidence based, accessible and responsive services.  The purpose of this grant opportunity is to address this need by funding headspace to undertake a range of key activities that ultimately better support the delivery of headspace and EPYS through the Primary Health Networks (PHNs) and contribute to the youth mental health sector more broadly, improving outcomes for young people with, or at risk of, mental illness. The objectives of the Youth Mental Health: headspace National grant opportunities are to: • Provide support, advice and resources to PHNs commissioning Lead Agencies to operate headspace services. • Manage headspace service activity data in line with departmental and PHN needs. • Manage and support EPYS data collection systems. • Enhance capabilities, skills and knowledge of health professionals within the headspace network. • Coordinate research and evaluation to enable translation of evidence into best practice. • Enhance a national approach to youth mental health and encourage community awareness and stigma reduction. • Provide advice and support to the Department on the headspace model and headspace Network. The expected outcomes of the grant are: • Contribute to improving mental health services for young people affected by poor mental health through translation of research and evidence base into best practice. • Contribute to increasing the skills and knowledge of health professionals and capacity of headspace services caring for young people affected by mental health issues. • Develop a national approach to youth mental health that sets standards and expectations for headspace services. • Improve awareness of available headspace services and increased help seeking behaviour amongst young people.
