Overview

The purpose of this grant opportunity is to continue to operate and deliver the ZERO Childhood Cancer National Precision Medicine Program (ZERO Program) to ensure ongoing provision of precision guided treatment recommendations maximising access to life-saving precision medicine to all children with cancer in Australia. Additionally, it seeks to extend the ZERO Program to include young adults aged 19–25 with paediatric-type cancers. Leveraging cutting edge multiomics and emerging technologies, the project will deliver results to treating clinicians in the current clinically feasible turnaround times. These results inform real time patient care decisions, including facilitating access to novel targeted therapies/treatment trials. ZERO assesses both the tumour omics and the germline genomics which ensures that it will assess the prevalence of hereditary cancer for Australian children and their families in all risk types, informing effective identification of at-risk individuals and contributing to the improvement of cancer control and prevention in the future. In parallel, the ZERO Program will accelerate genomic, biological, and clinical, discovery and translation, identifying novel multiomic drivers and novel drug targets. The discovery component will further enable industry engagement, attracting novel trials to Australia, and through new drug targets and potential candidates being identified.
