Overview

The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) is invited to apply via a closed non-competitive process to deliver activities under the Security Uplifts for Muslim Communities in Australia Program from 2025 to 2028. As a result of the conflict in the Middle East, there have been increasing threats of violence against the Australian Muslim community and a reported increase in Islamophobia across Australia. There is an urgent need for additional security measures at Muslim faith-based places to address these community safety threats and safeguard these vital community facilities. The Security Uplifts for Muslim Communities grant opportunity is being provided under Program 2.5 - Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship Program within Outcome 2 of the Department of Home Affair’s Portfolio Budget Statement. Outcome 2: Support a united and prosperous Australia through effective coordination and delivery of immigration and citizenship policy and programs underpinned by robust integrity and assurance. Program 2.5: Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship: To support a prosperous and inclusive society through the promotion, delivery and effective management of the Australian multicultural and citizenship programs. The objective of the grant activity is to enhance security resources for mosques, Islamic centres, Islamic schools and other community facilities utilised and attended by the Muslim community in Australia. The intended outcomes of the grant activity are to: increase the sense of safety and inclusivity within the Muslim community in Australia protect vital community infrastructure and prevent disruptions to religious, educational, and cultural activities strengthen community resilience against hate crimes and targeted attacks, and promote social cohesion.
