Overview

The grant opportunity will assist local government road managers to undertake capacity assessments of road assets on key freight routes (such as, but not limited to, bridges and culverts), to help better understand safe operating limits of road infrastructure and provide heavy vehicle access where safe. The objectives of the grant are to: improve the safety and productivity of heavy vehicle operators improve the capacity of local government road managers to assess applications for access to local road infrastructure by a larger range of heavy vehicles, including oversize over-mass vehicles. Capacity building includes (but is not limited to) research, reports and tools that help local councils to make the best use of limited asset information to make better informed access decisions improve the capacity of road freight operators to consider the safety requirements of their journey increase the safe use of road infrastructure assets and increase road freight productivity. The intended outcomes and outputs of the grant are: maximise the number of asset assessments to determine the potential freight-carrying capacity of local government road assets. We expect applicants to demonstrate how they will maximise the number of asset assessments undertaken through the activity, and how many they will undertake, and we will require grantees to report on how many asset assessments that have been undertaken as a result of the activity a nationally-consistent system for collecting, harmonising, storing and sharing asset assessment data. This system will operate in the context of the NAAS based on HVAMS, which will facilitate access and sharing of asset data (subject to the necessary permissions) with governments across Australia for access, planning, policy and infrastructure build purposes improve heavy vehicle access to road infrastructure to enhance the safety and productivity of supply chains.
