Keeping Women Safe in their Homes (KWSITH) Queensland
Department of Social Services
Overview
The KWSITH initiative supports women and their children through risk assessments, safety planning, home security audits and upgrades, and case management. The home security upgrades vary, but can include alarms, security screens and locks, and the use of technologies such as monitored personal safety devices, surveillance cameras, dashboard cameras, and electronic sweeping and de-bugging of homes and cars. KWSITH has 3 main objectives: Women who are at risk of, or are experiencing family, domestic or sexual violence and their children can stay safely in their own home, when they choose to do so. Women who are at risk of, or are experiencing family, domestic or sexual violence and their children can stay safely in a new home, when they choose to do so. Women and children can continue to have access to their usual support networks such as workplaces and schools. The KWSITH initiative further supports greater housing stability by providing women with an alternative to homeless shelters and emergency accommodation, and reduces the strain on emergency accommodation providers. KWSITH contributes to Closing the Gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians by providing grant funding for activities that address areas of need for Indigenous Australians and align with Closing the Gap targets, This grant round will contribute to the Closing the Gap Priority Reforms and Outcome 13: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and households are safe.
