Overview

The Australian Government funds academy and mentoring activities to engage and re-engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in their schooling to improve Year 12 attainment and support students into successful post-school pathways.   The Girls Academies grant opportunity is designed to increase attendance, retention rates, attainment levels, and health and wellbeing outcomes. The objective of the grant opportunity is to engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander female students in their schooling to bring about improved educational outcomes.   This grant opportunity has two components:   This component establishes new girls academies across Australia to meet identified need, in locations to be proposed by the Applicant in consultation with local stakeholders and community groups (it is anticipated 1,000 new places will be supported in 2021, 1,000 new places in 2022, growing to 2,700 new places established by December 2023). This component is to deliver services to increase attendance, retention rates, attainment levels, and health and wellbeing outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander female students in Years 7-12, to deliver services at existing girls academies specified locations (2,900 places per year in schools across WA, NT, NSW and Qld). The eligible locations for this component of the grant opportunity are detailed in the Grant Opportunity Guidelines. Applicants can apply for one or both of the components listed above. The process is open and competitive, which means your application will be considered on its merits and priorities for the Agency and will be compared to other applications within the component/s that you have applied for.
