Free Menstrual Hygiene Products Program for First Nations Communities
Department of Health and Aged Care
Overview
The Free Menstrual Hygiene Products Program for First Nations Communities was announced as part of the 2024-25 Budget. The purpose of this grant opportunity is to provide free menstrual hygiene products to rural and remote First Nations communities to alleviate some cost of living pressures for vulnerable populations (as per page 132 of the 2024-25 Budget Paper No 2). The Budget measure for this grant was developed following advice that existing menstrual product programs were not reaching rural and remote First Nations communities. The Free Menstrual Hygiene Products Program aligns with the new National Agreement on Closing the Gap and recognises self-determination, partnership and shared decision making as the best way to close the gap in health outcomes for First Nations people.
