Overview

The Health Workforce program is an Australian Government initiative administered by the department to deliver health workforce outcomes and support rural outreach health services. The RHMT program is part of the Health Workforce program and contributes to the Department’s Outcome 1 Health Policy, Access and Support. The RHMT program is administered according to the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines (CGRGs).   The RHMT program supports health students to undertake rural training through a network of rural clinical schools (RCS), university departments of rural health (UDRHs), dental faculties offering extended rural placements, and the Northern Territory Medical program (NTMP). The program also supports regional training hubs (RTH) tasked with building medical training pathways within a region and guiding students and trainees through these pathways. The aim of the RHMT program is to improve the recruitment and retention of health professionals in rural and remote Australia. This grant opportunity is part of the 2022 Australian Government’s budget measures aimed at increasing rural university clinical school training and postgraduate medical training to support and encourage more Australian-trained doctors to live and work in rural and regional areas as part of the RHMT program. The grant opportunity aims to establish a new rural clinical school in New South Wales.  Only universities listed at section 4.1 are eligible to apply. The intention of this forecast is to allow the eligible applicant the time to consider and develop their responses to the selection criteria.
