Overview

The Health Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP) (this grant opportunity) is a component of the Health Workforce Program which contributes to the department’s Portfolio Budget Statement Outcomes 1: Health Policy, Access, and Support, Program 1.4 Health Workforce. This grant opportunity will enable the continuation of the HWSP to assist in improving access to health services in rural and remote areas of Australia. This grant opportunity was initially announced as part of the 2015-16 Budget Measure, Streamlining Health Workforce Scholarships, which simplified health workforce scholarships. The HWSP grant combined several smaller programs into one, managed by a single administrator. The purpose of this grant is to improve access to health services in rural and remote areas by funding training and development for primary health care professionals working in these regions. Through the HWSP, the Government aims to encourage health professionals to work in areas with skill shortages by offering incentives. These incentives help health professionals meet the changing demand for specific medical services and practices, ensuring that people in rural and remote areas have better access to the health services they need.
