Overview

Established in 2020, the ARC Portal serves as a comprehensive resource for treating medical practitioners by facilitating access to expert advice from Australian and international sub-specialists in rare cancers. Through direct referrals, medical practitioners can access detailed guidance on diagnosis and genomic profiling, which increases treatment options for patients. The ARC Portal enhances equity by providing access to specialist rare cancer care outside of metropolitan areas by allowing everyone to access the same level of expert advice regardless of geography, reducing the need for unnecessary travel to tertiary or specialist cancer centres in capital cities.  This grant opportunity will facilitate the continuation of the ARC Portal (and enable an outreach trial in Queensland) to deliver vital treatment options to  individuals with rare cancers beyond 30 June 2025.  Access to information at a crucial time makes a huge impact on treatment availability. The online virtual ARC Portal provides information about accurate diagnosis, treatment, cost of care and access to research opportunities which may provide further guidance.  The ARC Portal addresses issues of equity, navigation and cost of care, thereby, reducing the stress of a rare cancer diagnosis and improving mental health by providing solutions to challenging problems.
