National Awareness and Inclusion Activities to support social inclusion for Autistic people
Department of Health, Disability and Ageing
Overview
The National Autism Strategy 2025–31 is Australia’s first national framework to improve the quality of life for all Autistic people. This grant supports Action 1.1 of the First Action Plan 2025-26 to develop and deliver initial national awareness and inclusion activities for those who work within the justice system, to ensure Autistic young people, their families, and carers who engage with the justice system are supported with a neuro-affirming approach. The grant opportunity will fund the development and delivery of activities and resources that promote understanding and build the capability of those who work within the justice system (including police, courts, prisons, and legal professionals) to provide appropriate responses to Autistic young people they may come in contact with. Activities and resources may include, but not be limited to: • reference guides • case studies • video modules • e-learning modules, and • an understanding autism toolkit.
