Overview

The purpose of this grant opportunity is to deliver onsite or outreach training and education to a range of medical professionals delivering maternity or maternity-related services in rural and remote communities (Modified Monash Model (MMM) 2-7 locations). The grant opportunity aims to improve access to safe and timely maternity related services by delivering upskilling and education (including access to simulation equipment) for a range of medical professionals, including GP obstetricians, midwives, theatre nurses, anaesthetists, and general practitioners. The program is delivered using a ‘hub and spoke’ model, where the hubs provide onsite or outreach training to their peripheral hospitals in the form of case-based learning and interactive forums. The training program is delivered by a Fellow or Associate (Procedural and Adv. Procedural) based at the hub. The objectives of the grant opportunity are: • ensuring a capable and confident workforce in regional, rural and remote areas who deliver maternity related services, and • addressing health workforce shortages in regional, rural and remote Australia by providing access to obstetrics and gynaecology related training in a safe and risk-free environment.  The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are: • increased access to maternity related services in regional, rural and remote communities that have limited access to specialist obstetrics and gynaecology care, and • improved confidence reported from members of multidisciplinary teams to undertake more complex clinical procedures.
