Overview

The Australian Government has committed $5 million (GST exclusive) to help sustain the Australian Associated Press (AAP) while the News Media Assistance Program is developed. Funding provided through the program will help sustain AAP’s wholesale service in 2023 while the News Media Assistance Program is developed as an enduring capability to guide news media policy intervention and support public interest journalism and media diversity. The objective of the Program is to contribute to media diversity by supporting the operation of Australian Associated Press (AAP) newswire service to enable it to continue to service news outlets, the majority of which are in regional Australia.
